Well, I’ve already admitted to choosing my words poorly. I may or may not have been a few glasses of whiskey deep when I posted this too

I agree that Ron Paul does have some sense of morality, but I completely disagree with how he presents himself in regards to Natural Law. Do I believe it’s the federal government’s responsibility to legislate morality? No. Do I believe they should be completely hands-off in regards to it? No. I do, however believe that the federal government has a role in protecting Natural Law to preserve society.

Over whiskey is certainly the best way to discuss politics, but this discussion would best not be started until the second or third glass. My real problem is to say that he has no moral compass. I think he clearly does; he and I probably just disagree with you on what that means the government’s role is. But I really think that Ron Paul has no problem with the separate states (or certainly local communities) regulating those things. It’s just that the constitution does not give that authority to the federal government and that to give the federal government this authority (even properly through a constitutional amendment) would be a mistake.

I also hate politics though.

I realize that I probably made a poor choice of words in that assessment. My problem with Libertarianism in general is that I can’t see how it jives with good Catholic social teaching…It’s quite probable that your interpretation of Catholic social teaching is different than mine.

We’ve talked about this plenty before if I’m not mistaken. At the very least, we can at least come together over good whiskey.

Ron Paul has no moral compass? Please, explain what you mean. Or don’t. I just wanted to let you know that I disagree completely. But there is a chance that I don’t properly understand what you are saying.

You’re right: “Guy with blog and twitter account” is definitely more attractive to the ladies than just “guy with twitter account”, but “guy with a flat stomach, blog and twitter account” trumps all.

Get on it Lucas (the blogging part). I’m sure you have 10s of stories that need sharing. You already have me wanting to hear more about the sly and ever so sneeky hairball….
